The Lochty Private Railway had a brief life from about 1966 into the 90s. After closure to British Rail traffic in 1965 3/4 mile of trackbed became the property of a Mr Cameron, across whose farm it ran. When I visited, probably in the summer of 1967, taking a succession of rural buses from Edinburgh, Gresley A4 4-6-2 Pacific “ Union of South Africa” was implausibly puffing up and down some very haphazardly laid track. Later, a coach was added, but after a year or two, when BR had relented on its main line steam ban, 60009 was returned to main line service. Another locomotive was obtained for Lochty, but I was never there apart from once, when I took these photos.
