I'm not sure when exactly I took this shot of Q1 0-6-0 33006
at Feltham shed. I suspect it was in 1966, maybe 1967. There
doesn't look to be much other activity that day, and in any earlier
year I might have expected to have been thrown out before I
got so far into the shed area. The Q1s were used on freight
all over the SW Division. This one has a Nine Elms shedplate.
Left: Unrebuilt West Country Pacific 34023 at Winchester before completion of the electrification to Southampton and Bournemouth. It looks as though the nameplate is still affixed. "Blackmore Vale". This locomotive was subsequently preserved.
Right: On 8th June 1967 rebuilt West Country Pacific 34037 "Clovelly" heads a down express through Clapham Junction. Southern Region always stuck with green passenger stock.
Left: "Clovelly" again, this time at Feltham shed on 29th June 1967. It looks as though there is at least one other loco in steam on shed, but otherwise the grass between the tracks in the distance speaks of things being run down. See note below on 73029 for what an express passenger loco (in reasonably clean conditon) might have been doing at a freight shed like Feltham
Right: Merchant Navy Pacific 35023 "Holland-Afrika Line" heads an up express through Clapham Junction on the 8th July 1967. The smokebox is inscribed "THE END". Nameplates have been removed.
Left: 2-6-2T 41319 heads empty stock into the carriage sidings at Clapham Junction on the evening of 8th July 1967.
